Heat pumps, in plain English
An air source heat pump takes heat from the outside air and uses it to warm the house, instead of burning gas in a boiler. We survey, design and fit it as an individual measure: the outdoor unit, the heating system inside, and a handover on the controls. It runs cooler than a boiler, so the house has to be able to hold that heat. If it cannot, we will say so before we quote.
A heat pump on uninsulated solid brick works too hard
Solid brick has no cavity. An overworked gas boiler can still heat the house by burning more fuel. A heat pump cannot. External Wall Insulation wraps the outside so the house holds heat, rooms stay even, and the pump can run at the temperatures it is designed for. Then the heat pump belongs on the house, not as a hopeful bolt-on.

- EWI is done from outside, so you keep the rooms and usually stay living in the house.

MCS is the accrediting body
Air source heat pumps have to be installed by an MCS certified contractor for the work to count, including for BUS. That is us.
MCS
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme is the standard for heat pump installers in the UK. Westdale North is MCS certified.
TrustMark
MCS heat pump work is lodged through TrustMark. BUS also needs an MCS certified installer.
